“I am excited and honoured to lead an organisation with such outstanding staff. CPFT has made good progress in extremely challenging times. This is due to the dedication and commitment of the many staff who go the extra mile every day supporting vulnerable people at the most challenging times in their lives. I believe that CPFT has the potential to become a nationally recognised healthcare provider. With our outstanding staff, areas of best practice, clinical excellence and our partnerships with the University of Cambridge, we have the opportunity to become a nationally recognised provider of mental health and well-being services. My ambition is that people turn to us when they are seeking cutting-edge mental health, social and community healthcare, wherever they live.”

Dr Chess Denman, Medical Director
Dr Denman is a consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist. As medical director it is her responsibility to ensure that the trust delivers clinically effective care to the highest standards of excellence and that it continues to support and conduct research into new treatments for psychiatric problems.
"I believe that patients who need psychiatric help and treatment in Cambridge deserve to be offered the highest standard of care and treatments that are both effective and compassionately delivered. I am personally committed to equality of access to care and have campaigned against discrimination in psychiatric practice on the grounds of race, sexuality and gender. I do not believe that doctors and mental health staff should tell patients what to do. Instead we should work in partnership with our patients protecting them when they are vulnerable but deferring to them when they are strong."
Dr Denman trained in medicine at Trinity College, Cambridge, and London University before studying psychiatry at Guys and St Thomas' hospitals and at the Cassel Hospital in London. She then became consultant psychiatrist in psychotherapy, first at Addenbrooke's and then at CPFT. Dr Denman founded the Complex Cases Service 12 years ago for treatment of personality disorders within CPFT and it won pilot site and now innovation site status from the Department of Health along with substantial funding to expand after three years. Recently the service expanded to include one of only two in-patient units within the NHS for personality disordered patients. Dr Denman has published papers, articles and a book on personality disorder, the organisation of psychotherapy services and human sexuality.
