Aidan Thomas is new Chief Executive of CPFT
10 July 2013

Aidan Thomas has been announced as the new Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT).

Mr Thomas (right), Chief Executive of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, has more than 30 years’ experience in the NHS and a long background in mental health. He will be taking over from Dr Attila Vegh, who is leaving the Trust at the end of July.

David Edwards, Chairman of CPFT, said: "We were delighted by the calibre of the candidates who applied for the role. Aidan has a strong track record of management and leadership at Executive Director and Chief Executive level within the mental health and the primary care sector, combined with solid service/operational management.

"I think this is a great appointment – Aidan’s particular strengths are working with staff and engaging with external partners, patients and carers, and I am really looking forward to working with him. We all feel that Aidan brings a wealth of experience - particularly in healthcare leadership, mental health and the direct provision of care - that makes him the right choice for CPFT."

Mr Thomas successfully led the merger of Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and the Suffolk Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust last year. Prior to joining Norfolk and Suffolk NHS FT in October 2009, Aidan was Chief Executive Officer at West Essex Primary Care Trust. Aidan is a former director of human resources and executive director of Lambeth Community NHS Trust. In 1995 he joined Essex and Herts Community NHS Trust as director of operations, and was appointed Chief Executive of Epping Forest Primary Care Trust in April 2000.
