CPFT appoints new Chair
15 May 2014

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) has appointed Julie Spence as its new Chair.

Mrs Spence, who was a Non-Executive Director at the Trust, will formally take over as Chair in June 2014.

Mrs Spence has been a Non-Executive Director at CPFT since 2012. Prior to that she was Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire Police and has more than 30 years’ experience in public service. She succeeds David Edwards, who has stepped down after two years as Chairman.

Mrs Spence said: “It is a great honour to have been appointed Chair of this Trust and I must pay tribute to the fantastic work David Edwards has done over the past two years. He will be a hard act to follow, but I am confident I can continue his good work to ensure success. During my two years as a member of the Board of Directors, I have been extremely impressed with the services this Trust offers and the staff who deliver them.

"I am absolutely passionate about putting the citizen, the patient, and the service user at the very centre of everything we do. We face a number of challenges as we strive to deliver the best possible care for our patients, but I am excited at the prospect of working with the Board, staff, patients, stakeholders and the local community to meet these challenges head on. We have a really good strategy in place going forward and, together, we can make a difference.”

Aidan Thomas, Chief Executive of CPFT, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of Julie as our new Chair. She has been a committed and valuable Non-Executive Director of this Trust for two years and we know how passionate she is about improving health services for our patients and carers. With her strong public service background and experience of working with local communities, Julie is the ideal person to lead this Trust in what is an extremely challenging time for not just this Trust, but the whole NHS.”

He added: “We’d also like to pay tribute to David Edwards, who has stepped down after a successful term as Chairman. David has worked in the NHS for more than 50 years and has been an outstanding leader of the Board. We wish him well for the future.”
