He usually spends his days at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust co-ordinating trials into dementia research.

But consultant psychiatrist Dr Ben Underwood is swapping clinical trials for the trombone after organising a charity concert.

The evening of wind music will take place at the Emmanuel United Reformed Church, Trumpington Street, Cambridge, on Sunday, 19 April.

The concert, called Mind Blowing, will raise money for CPFT’s charitable fund along with Alzheimer’s Research, along with Mind, Alzheimer’s Society and the Friends of Fulbourn Hospital.

Dr Underwood said: “I am so pleased to put the concert on and raise awareness and money for dementia research. I’ve been playing the trombone for more than 30 years and there’s a big community of brass players across Cambridgeshire.

“I’m delighted that around 100 of them have said they will come and play on the night.”

The evening will include performances from CSD Brass, Prime Brass and the Huntingdonshire Concert Band. They will be joined on stage by internationally acclaimed soloist, Duncan Wilson.

Dr Underwood said: “There will be something for everyone on the night including music from the shows, original music and even a rendition of Pharrell Williams’ Happy.

“I hope as many people as possible will be able to come along, enjoy the evening, and help raise money for CPFT and the other organisations.”

Tickets are £10 and for more information visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/mindblowing

Dr Underwood is currently co-ordinating dementia research trials involving more than 200 from across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Conducted by experts from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridge University, the trials – if successful - could lead to major breakthroughs in the understanding, prevention and treatment of dementia within five years.
