Cavell Centre to learn about healthy eating and exercise during Dietitians Week
09 June 2016

Staff , patients and visitors to the Cavell Centre in Peterborough can learn about the importance of healthy eating and exercise at an event to mark Dietitians Week (6-10 June).

Dietitians from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) will be on hand to offer expert advice on Friday, 10 June, from 9am to 12pm. The centre is one of CPFTs largest bases providing a wide range of mental health services.

The theme this year is workplace health and well-being and how simple lifestyle changes can make a significant difference. Each day of the week-long event will take on a different sub-theme:

  • Food and mood – Monday (6th).
  • Healthy meetings – Tuesday (7th)
  • Protecting your lunch hour – Wednesday (8th)
  • Hydration – Thursday (9th)
  • Food and movement – Friday (10th)

A range of British Dietitian Association (BDA) food facts sheets and CPFT diet sheets will be available and as this year it coincides with National Carers Week, there will also be information for carers.

Joanne Dalrymple-Smith, Advanced Community Dietitian, CPFT, said: “There’s strong evidence that supporting regular eating patterns and a quality diet for workers can improve overall wellness, drive productivity and reduce sickness absence, which links to the BDA’s Work Ready campaign. So we’ll be at the store to offer advice and highlight the work and worth of dieticians”.

The week also includes a range of national awareness raising and political events throughout the UK which promote the profession and the impact of dietetic practice on the health of the nation, including a visit to the House of Lords.
