Chief Exec welcomes Government mental health strategy

Aidan Thomas heartened by funding pledge, but hopes vision will become reality

Chief Exec welcomes Government mental health strategy
20 January 2014

The Government's Mental Health Strategy was today launched by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

In response, Aidan Thomas, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, has issued the following statement:

“Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust welcomes any moves to improve treatment and reduce levels of stigma associated with mental ill health.

“It can affect people of all ages and I am very proud of the work we do at CPFT as we consistently strive to enhance our services amid the twin pressures of a rise of referrals and cuts to funding.

“For a long time we have long lobbied for parity of esteem so mental health is granted the same level of funding as physical health, and we will continue to work with our commissioners to ensure this can be achieved.

“The Government’s strategy again puts the issue of mental health into sharp focus, and I hope any visions set out today will become reality.”
