A special cycling challenge which took place at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough and Elizabeth House at Fulbourn today (Friday, 6 June) has been hailed a success.

The CPFT physio team encouraged staff to see who could record the fastest time on an exercise bike.

The event was part of Work Out at Work Day 2014 organised by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Kate Brown, physiotherapy team lead, said: "As physiotherapy staff we promote the importance and benefits of physical activity. For staff, it importanct to build some movement or physical activity into their working day.

"The Work Out At Work Day has been a fantastic opportunity to achieve this.

"Staff who normally spend most of their day sitting at a desk or in meetings took part in the bike challenge and felt energised for the remainder of the day.”

In Peterborough, Dr Tom Mole, who works on the Maple wards, took top honours. Tom recorded a time of 1min and 47secs for one mile.

In Cambridge, the Trust's corporate governance manager, Lauren MacIntyre (right), raced home in a time of 1m 55secs for one kilometre.

Tom will get two weeks' free membership to the Virgin Active healthclub in Peterborough, while Lauren receives a fortnight's pass to the Spirit Health Club in Cambridge.

Physio technician Adele Wyness said: "We were really pleased that so many people wanted to take part."

Physio Fiona White added: "Some colleagues said the event had definitely encouraged them to do more exercise as a result of the bike challenge and I really hope we can do again soon."
