Have your say on CPFT spirituality strategy

Senior chaplain John Nicholson publishes draft document  - and now wants to hear from you

Have your say on CPFT spirituality strategy
23 December 2013

Senior chaplain John Nicholson has published a draft version of CPFT’s spirituality strategy.

Staff and service-users are now invited to comment on the strategy ahead of the final version being published in Spring 2014.

The draft document, which can be viewed by clicking here, sets outs the shared values of the Trust, the role of spirituality in care, and the core principles that should underpin spiritual and religious identity within CPFT.

John said: "There's a lot of misunderstanding about spirituality and some people think it's all to do with religion and only that. But actually it's really about finding the meaning, value and purpose in our life experience - especially our toughest and most challenging experiences - and using what we find and learn from these to our own advantage, and to the benefit of others, in cooperation, as fellow travellers along life's highway.

"Recovery is based on these principles and values, and a focus on spirituality - what really matters to a person, in their heart - can become the foundation for their recovery and wellbeing.

"The same thing applies to all of us, whoever we are and whatever we are within our mental health community."

The strategy runs from 2014 to 2017 and it will be championed by our new Spiritual Care Forum involving CPFT and partners.

The previous strategy ran from 2009, and the publication highlights some of the key successes from the last four years.

The draft strategy can be viewed here, and anyone who wishes to comment should email John by clicking here. The deadline for comments is 23 January 2014.
