Jac Eaglen certainly used his head when he wanted to thank staff at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust’s Phoenix Centre for caring for his cousin.

The 11-year-old was so impressed by the help given to Reigan Britton that he decided to fundraise for the unit which supports young people with eating disorders – by shaving off all his hair!

Jac’s family, friends and pupils at Runcton Holme Primary School in King’s Lynn, all made donations – and he underwent the chop in front of teachers and cheering classmates.

In total Jac, from Watlington, raised £300 and he has bought a new games console for the Phoenix Centre along with controllers and other equipment.

Jac - with his hair now grown back - together with his mum Sam and 18-year-old Reigan recently returned to the Phoenix Centre in Fulbourn, Cambridge, to present the results of his fundraising efforts to staff and patients.

Reigan, who has been discharged following her treatment, said: “I am very proud of Jac, He decided to grow his hair and shave it to raise money for the Phoenix Centre all by himself.

“He wanted to give something back to the place that helped me recover from a horrible illness. We both hope that all the current and future patients enjoy the gift.”

Carole Green, Head of Patient and Parent Involvement at the Phoenix Centre, said “We are so grateful for the effort Jac went to in order to raise funds for equipment for the young people at the Phoenix Centre. We are touched that he wanted to show his support in this way.”

CPFT’s Phoenix Centre is a specialist in-patient and day-patient unit for the treatment of young people aged 13-18 years old suffering from complex eating disorders.
