The final apples are being picked ahead of a special event taking place at Darwin Nurseries in Cambridge.

Visitors can try apple pressing when they visit the farm shop and horticulture project run by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust on 25 and 26 October between 10am and 4pm.

Staff and volunteers at Darwin Nurseries in Newmarket Road, Teversham, believe everyone’s combined efforts will mean they will be able to make 100 bottles of apple juice.

Trish Roberts (pictured), horticultural support officer at Darwin Nurseries, said: “We hope we can welcome lots of people over the course of the two days and they will be able to see the process that is involved in making apple juice, and have a go themselves.”

Darwin Nurseries is staffed by NHS workers alongside volunteers and people with learning disabilities.

As well as a huge range of plants and vegetables to buy, there are also goats, chickens and pigs for people to see and find out more about.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust provides learning disability services along with mental health, integrated community and social care services.
