Mulberry Wards officially open

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust’s (CPFT) Chairman David Edwards led the celebrations as the new Mulberry 1, 2 and 3 wards were declared officially open on Wednesday 5 June.

After a major refurbishment programme, the new Mulberry wards have replaced Adrian House, Friends Ward and Cedars Recovery Unit, as part of the new 3-3-3 model introduced at Fulbourn.

The model is made up of three stages – three days’ assessment (at Mulberry 1), three weeks of treatment (at Mulberry 2) and three months of recovery (at Mulberry 3). This new system sets out for patients what care they will receive at each stage of their treatment and for how long they can expect to stay on each ward. From day one, patients work with staff to look at their treatment and recovery so they can get themselves back into the community as soon as they are able.

David said: "I'd like to thank all the staff for not only getting us to the stage where these wards can be opened, but also for everything you do - it really is appreciated."

As the Chairman cut the ribbon at the entrance to Mulberry 1, he added: "On behalf of 3-3-3 I'd like to declare this brand new facility and brand new service for this part of the world, well and truly open."

Dr Manaan Kar Ray, Clinical Director of CPFT’s Acute Division, told them: "The 3-3-3 system is based on recovery and good patient care. That's what we have found in Peterborough and that's what we will replicate here."

The 3-3-3 model has been highly successful following its launch in Peterborough in 2011.
