Tracy Dowling today begins her first day as CEO of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) after taking over from Aidan Thomas who has retired after 35 years with the NHS.

Tracy (right), who was previously Chief Officer of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “It is a privilege to become the new Chief Executive of CPFT.

“This is an organisation which cares for more than 100,000 people every year and we have excellent mental and physical health services. Even before I officially started I have been meeting many of our staff and patients, and I couldn’t be more impressed by what I have found.

“There is no doubt we have challenges, particularly in ensuring  funding for mental health services matches the levels of demand, and in the recruitment of both new and experienced staff. But I am confident that CPFT will continue its very best for every person who requires our help.

“Overall, CPFT and all the other health and social care providers in the area cannot operate alone. We need to work together to ensure the people we support receive truly integrated care.

“This will not only continue to improve services but help to reduce the financial gap faced by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough healthcare system. CPFT has been at the forefront of implementing the Sustainability and Transformation Programme locally and I will ensure that this work continues.”

As well as being the CEO of CPFT, Tracy has confirmed she will spend up to two days a week in her role as Accountable Officer for the Sustainability and Transformation Programme – the collaboration between all NHS organisations and local authorities in the area who are working together to improve health, wellbeing and experiences of care.

Julie Spence, Chair of CPFT, said: “We think it is vitally important that Tracy not only leads our organisation but continues her work with the Sustainability and Transformation Programme. She is supported by a very strong team of executive directors and associate directors who will continue to listen to the views of those who receive and deliver all of our services.

“I echo her views that our Trust cannot operate alone. We need to work with all of our partners to ensure patients and service-users in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough continue to be at the centre of everything we do.”

Tracy has more than 30 years’ experience with the NHS including 12 years at boardroom level. Before joining the Cambridge and Peterborough CCG, she was previously Director of Operations and Delivery with NHS England, working in the East Anglia Area Team and establishing systems of assurance for clinical commissioning.  Prior to that, she was Director of Strategic Commissioning with NHS Suffolk for four years. Before working in commissioning Tracy spent 20years working in the acute provider sector; originally as a radiographer, then in general management operations.
