A group of bikers from RAF Wittering are to help build a sensory garden at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough.

The riders donate cash each year to a series of good causes in the local area.

After being approached by staff from the Oak 1 ward at the Cavell Centre, which is run by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, the kind-hearted members of the RAF Wittering Motorcycle Club donated £300.

And after presenting a cheque to CPFT staff members, the airmen pledged to return to the Cavell Centre to help construct the garden.

David Williamson, an occupation therapist at Oak 1, said: “We were just delighted that the RAF Wittering Motorcycle Club chose to donate some money to help build the garden.

“But for them to say they want to come back and help build the garden is really brilliant. This will mean so much to the patients here.

“It will be a fantastic space for them to enjoy while they are with us and help aid them on their path to recovery.”

Plans for the garden are still being finalised but could include water features, music and vibrant colours. Building work, with the help of the RAF Wittering volunteers, is expected to get underway later this month.

Oak 1 is a 16-bed ward for women experiencing acute mental health problems.
