Still time to support CPFT chair on charity ride

Julie Spence on preparations, punctures and a love/hate relationship with the bike that will take her 1,000 miles

Still time to support CPFT chair on charity ride
18 May 2015

CPFT Chair Julie Spence has decided to mark her 60th birthday by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats – and raising £60,000.
In less than four weeks, the former Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire will be riding the 1,000 miles in aid of children’s charity, Ormiston Families.
Here, she writes about preparations, punctures, and how there’s still time to sponsor her epic ride.

My LEJOG (Lands End to John O Groats) challenge is now less than a month away so the trepidation is building.

I set off to Penzance on 13 June and we start on the 14 June. All being well I fly back to Luton on 27 June with my bike following with the back-up company - although I'm not sure if I will love it or hate it by then.

The relationship I have with my bicycle is currently best-decribed as "complicated", and indeed this update is being penned while waiting for my husband to collect me after my second puncture in two days.

I am praying for better luck next month and after yesterday's headwinds I have added a tailwind to my wish list.

In my heart of hearts I know the challenge will be worthwhile and particularly as all the money raised goes to give deprived young people have a chance in life.

I am nearly at £10k so all donations to help me crack that milestone are gratefully received.

You can follow my progress or donate via my just giving website which can be found here or text GOJS59 £10 to 70070.

For further updates, you can also follow me on my fledgling Twitter - @jspencecycling.

Many thanks to all who have supported me to date, your generosity has really kept me going.

Best wishes

Julie
