Congratulations to Dr Becky Morland and the Peterborough Youth Offending Service

The Youth Offending Service (YOS), which includes our psychology team led by Dr Becky Morland, Consultant Counselling Psychologist and Senior Manager of the Health and Family Intervention Team, has just passed recent inspections from the HM Inspector of Prisons (HMIP) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with flying colours.

The HMIP inspection put the Peterborough Youth Offending Service in the top five of the 124 YOSs inspected to date. The lead Inspector said she saw some of the best work with young people she had ever inspected.

The CQC praised the team for their impressive skills, enthusiasm and professionalism and Becky Morland was singled out for her excellent leadership of the health team and the respect the team has for her. The results show a good example of partnership working, and Iain Easton (Head of Service, Youth Offending) and Dr Niel McLachlan (Consultant Clinical Psychologist from CPFT) were mentioned for their vision and drive to create an effective service that meets the health needs of young people who offend

Other areas of good practice highlighted by the CQC included:

  • Good use of a wide range of assessments covering physical health, substance misuse and learning difficulties / emotional / mental health
  • Intervention planning meetings and reviews cited as best practice
  • MST and the CAMEO team work very well with the YOS
  • Interventions considered to be very effective with good outcomes
  • Health service support for YOS good and a positive attitude towards information sharing

Overall the CQC considered the health work in Peterborough YOS to be some of the best in the country both in terms of breadth and the skill of the people delivering it.

So well done, Becky, Niel and all the team!
