Our new mental health unit in Peterborough Minimize  

Our new mental health unit, The Cavell Centre, which is on the Edith Cavell Campus in Peterborough, is part of the £335 million Greater Peterborough Health Investment Plan (GPHIP).

Our new unit opened in May 2009. This new state-of-the-art 104-bed mental health unit offers patients purpose-built accommodation with single en-suite bedrooms. It includes adult acute psychiatric wards, a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, older people’s mental health unit and a specialist service for people with learning disabilities. The accommodation includes restaurant-style dining facilities for patients, staff and visitors, an information centre, a fitness and recreational centre and landscaped gardens.

The centre is situated in the grounds of the Edith Cavell Healthcare Campus.

All access to The Cavell Centre is through the main reception. The main doors are open from 8am-8pm seven days a week. All visitors are expected to leave the centre by 7.45pm. Everyone accessing the centre must sign in and out of the building.

Maps and car parking

To view details of car parking and maps for the Edith Cavell Campus, click here. Car parking is managed by Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Trust and car parking wardens operate on the site. It is, therefore, the responsibility of staff, patients and visitors to ensure they park in the correct places and ensure appropriate car parking charges are paid. A 30-minute drop-off zone is available at the front of The Cavell Centre. Contact the Travel Plan Co-ordinator on 01733 874632, ext 4632, for more information.

Buses

Buses arrive at the Edith Cavell campus about every 10 minutes.

Restaurant

A restaurant is available at The Cavell Centre for staff, patients, carers and members of the public. This is situated near the main reception and is open from 8am-6.30pm every day of the year.

Smoking arrangements

CPFT operates a no-smoking policy. Staff must leave the Edith Cavell Campus if they wish to smoke Patients are allowed to smoke only in the outside patient gardens in permitted areas.
