If you encounter more significant mental health conditionss, you may be referred on to our secondary care services. Our teams comprise nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists and support workers. They provide a range of care and support options that meet national standards of best practice in health and social care.

Our teams are based across Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon and Peterborough. It is important to us that we provide services that are flexible, responsive and well co-ordinated involving other local providers and agencies.

All of our services aim to promote the health and wellbeing of those we work with. We work with people and those family, friends and carers that are important to them to address their needs and aspirations, building on strengths and inspiring hope that with the right support and treatment that they can recover from their mental health problems and get on with leading their lives in the way they want to. We believe in personalised care, seeing the person as the individual they are. We know that good mental health is not just about offering medication or talking therapies as treatment choices but may involve us working to secure good housing, to maintain or provide opportunities to secure employment or training, to access financial advice, as well as developing social supports and outlets.

We also provide intensive community based teams that support people when they are experiencing a major mental health crisis. We support family, friends and carers to cope with and help resolve the crisis. We know that most people when they experience a crisis in their health want to stay at home and close to their family and friends.

We have designed our services to provide crisis and home treatment services that provide rapid response, treatment and support 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. However, there are occasions when people need to come to hospital.  This can be so that we can better understand how best to help and keep them safe, or so that we can provide more intensive treatment and support than the community services can provide. We have inpatient wards at Cambridge and in Peterborough.

Is there support for my family and carers?

As a service, we are committed to working with and supporting family, friends and carers. This might be in the form of informal conversations and support, or can be through a more formal Carer’s assessment in some teams. The Carer’s assessment covers things like if your carer might need support with finances and benefits, help around the house, or if they might need to talk to someone about their concerns and how they might best help and support you.
