Documents that Guide Practice (DtGPs) are procedural documents that support the delivery of consistently high standards of care that are based on legislation, national and local guidelines and/or research-based evidence of good practice.

The development of these documents must follow the appropriate CPFT governance process set out in the Policy for the Development and Management of Procedural Documents (Policy on Policies).

How do I access the documents?

You can access the documents via the ‘quick search’ engine below. The ‘free text’ box enables you to type in key words to further refine your search. Additionally, you can refine your search by specifying the category, clinical division and status of the document.

Development of procedural documents
The development and review of procedural documents need to follow the appropriate governance processes set out in the Policy of Policies.

All CPFT policies need to use the policy template. Other types of procedural documents (eg, guidelines, protocols, strategies,) may follow an alternative format as long as it complies with the corporate style and the minimum requirements set out in the policy.

Equality Impact Assessments
All procedural documents will need to have an Equality Impact Assessment screen carried out, as a minimum. If indicated by the screen then a full Equality Impact Assessment will need to be completed.
