The Keeping Myself Safe (KMS) podcast is a psycho-educational intervention with a strong emphasis on personal safety (i.e. harm minimisation). Aims include:

  • Providing information about your eating disorder symptoms and any associated health risks
  • Providing personal recovery accounts from patients who have received treatment with NCEDS
  • Developing an individualised self-care plan - including engaging with any physical health monitoring recommendations and identifying the sources of support that are available to you – in order to help you look after yourself whilst waiting for treatment.
  • Preparing you for treatment sessions if you are engaged with an eating disorder service.

The podcasts consist of a series of six sessions lasting between 5-20 minutes each. They aim to address eating disorder diagnosis, motivation to change and recovery, physical consequences of eating disorder behaviours, the importance of nutrition, understanding binge eating, and unhelpful behaviours which maintain anxieties over eating, weight and shape and can be downloaded to your mobile / tablet device to listen to at your convenience.

The podcasts are available here:

As you listen to the podcasts the following workbook will assist you.  The knowledge questionnaires two here: Podcast1 & Podcast6.

‘The Knowledge Quiz_podcast 1’ and ‘The Knowledge Quiz_podcast 6’ will be useful to complete at the end of podcast one and podcast six.

If you are currently a patient of NCEDS, we would also be interested in your feedback regarding the podcasts.  You can complete the evaluation forms here and return them to NCEDS at your next appointment.
