Cambridgeshire Multisystemic Therapy for Problem Sexual Behaviour (MST PSB) is an intensive home-based programme offering families a range of therapeutic approaches to address concerns regarding young family members who have displayed problem sexual behaviour.

How this service can help you

Our treatment aims to address the multiple factors which might lead to problem sexual behaviour.  This involves working with young people and their parents/carers.  Our overall aim is to reduce problem sexual behaviour, whilst young people continue to live within their own environment.  Safety planning, to ensure the safety of the community, is a crucial part of the treatment.

Facilities available

We provide an on call service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  We work with families in their own homes.

How do young people access this service?

We accept referrals for children and young people from 10 - 17 years old living in Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Central Bedford or Bedford Borough who are at risk of out of home placement due to sexually related anti-social or delinquent behaviour and/or young people involved in the youth justice system because of problem sexual behaviours.

There are local arrangements within each Local Authority area for referral into the service; this is usually via a multi-agency panel.

We do not accept direct referrals from GPs.

How do I refer to MST PSB?

Referrals are usually made by social workers, youth offending services or child and adolescent mental health services.

The MST PSB referral form is available on request from MST Services (see below).

Cambridgeshire:

  • Referrals can be made via the Cambridgeshire Sexual Behaviour Service, tel: 01223 703591 or via MST PSB on  01480 373539.

  • Referrals should be made through the relevant local referral panels to the MST PSB team.

The MST PSB team holds monthly allocation meetings with representatives from the four Local Authorities to screen referrals for a suitability assessment.

Who provides the service?

The service is provided by a partnership of four Local Authorities: Cambridgeshire County Council, Peterborough City Council, Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedford Council.  This partnership works in collaboration with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust to provide treatment for young people, aged 10-17 years old in these areas who are at risk of out of home placement due to sexually related anti-social or delinquent behaviours and/or young people involved with the youth justice system due to problem sexual behaviours

The team consists of a supervisor and MST PSB workers who are recruited from the following professions: clinical psychologists, family therapists, mental health nurses and social workers.

Who is this service for?

Young people will be referred to us if there are concerns that they are at risk of out of home placement because of their antisocial or delinquent behaviour.  They may also be involved with the youth justice system.

Young people are also eligible for our service if they are living with a foster family and it is their permanent placement or they are in an out of home placement at the time of referral but will be returning to their caregivers in their local community during the course of treatment.
