HMP and Young Offenders Institution Peterborough has 1008 places and is the country’s only dual-purpose-built prison for both men and women. The genders are separated and never mix.

How this service can help you

The prison also has a 12-place mother-and-baby unit, plus 34 places for young female offenders.

The prison focus is on providing personal development services such as education, employment, recreation and sports to help support a smooth transition for the prisoners' release back into the community.

The mental health in-reach team works with both primary and secondary clients, providing a service that follows the recovery model, with a step-up/down philosophy.

It works with prisoners who have severe and enduring mental health issues and complex and challenging personality disorders.

The team consists of various disciplines and works closely with prison agencies to meet the mental health needs of the prisoner.
