Part of the Trust-wide 16-bed specialist in-patient learning disability service, the Intensive Assessment and Support Service (IASS) is a specialist six-bed in-patient health unit for people needing assessment and a complex care package. The team accepts planned referrals and emergency admissions via the team or consultant psychiatrist.

IASS provides in-patient assessment, treatment, psychiatry, clinical psychology and person centred therapy services including music and art therapy. The team supports individuals, families, staff and providers to reduce the risk of relapse. The aim of the team is to help reduce the risk of further out of area placements as well as reducing inappropriate admission to NHS specialist services and suppport complex individuals coming though transitions to adult services.

The team helps to identify housing and staffing needs and has close links with housing and local LD teams, LD inpatient units and other agencies.

The team comprises:

  • Consultant psychiatrists
  • Psychologists
  • Learning disability nurses
