The Peterborough School Nursing Service is a universal health service for children and young people and their parents that aims to optimise health and promote learning through well-being and inclusion.

How this service can help you

We can help children and young people and their families through our screening and health promotion services which include:

  • School entry screening
  • HPV vaccination programmes for girls in year 8
  • Meningitis C booster
  • Flu vaccines
  • Height, weight, vision and hearing checks
  • Drop-in sessions to discuss physical and emotional health

We are committed to safeguarding children and preventing harm.

From the 1 September, the school age immunisation service across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Norfolk and Suffolk will be provided by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s Children and Young People’s Health Services teams.

Facilities available

The service is based in Peterborough schools Monday to Friday during school term. We have some staff working during school holidays.

How do I access the service?

We accept referrals from parents, children, young people, schools and other professionals working with children and young people in the Peterborough catchment area of NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Referrals from other health and social care professionals working with children and young people should include GP consent.

Young people in secondary school can access the service in their own right via their school based drop-in sessions.

Who provides the service?

The Peterborough School Nursing Service is provided by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust Children’s Business Unit and is part of the universal prevention and early intervention pathway.

Who is this service for?

The school nursing service provides services for all children and young people in mainstream and special schools and the Pupil Referral Unit and their families who are registered with a Peterborough based GP and/or attend schools within Peterborough City Council Local Education Authority.

We do not currently provide services for children educated at home.
