Who we support...

Head to Toe is Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust’s charity. We help support and empower people to lead a fulfilling life by funding projects that enhance mental health and community care.

Our aim is to provide help and support that goes above and beyond what our increasingly limited NHS budgets can provide.

In 2019 your support helped us fund some amazing things. Here are just a few:

Sleep packs – One of our children’s teams in Peterborough see a number of unaccompanied children asylum seekers accessing their services. They wanted to do even more to help these young people who are often distressed by the new world around them and the journey they have undertaken to get here.

The team put together sleep packs containing several small comforts to help with something many of us take for granted, a good night’s rest.

Shamreen Bi, an administrator within the Children's services helped come up with the idea. – ‘We hope the sleep packs improve the wellbeing of these young people and help with a new start.’

A keyboard for patients – S3 is one of our services at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, caring for people struggling with eating disorders.

A patient on the ward told us that they would like to have more music. Thanks to our donors and supporters, we were able to help. We funded a new keyboard for all patients to use on the ward. We were also delighted to work in collaboration with our Arts Therapy department to support music therapist Valentini Toubari to run a weekly choir.

‘it gives people the opportunity for coproduction, to be part of a group; sharing and creating moments and experiences together.’ (Valentini Toubari, pictured front)

Know Your Numbers event for blood pressure awareness. – Heart problems can often be so easy to treat if signs are detected early. We were proud to work with our Cardiac Services Team on a community outreach project offering free blood pressure tests as part of the ‘know your numbers campaign’. The tests were offered to people in Peterborough going about their daily lives.

New gym for our Young People. -  Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we were able to contribute towards the building of a new gym at our Ida Darwin site at Fulbourn.

The Darwin Centre helps people between the ages of 13-17 who are struggling with their mental health.

Head of Patient and Parent Involvement, Bryony Dale (pictured) “Exercise has massive potential to enhance wellbeing, particularly in young people. Physical activity isn’t just about pushing yourself to run as far as you can; just a brisk 10 minute walk on a treadmill can reducing feelings of stress, anxiety and help create a positive energy and mood throughout the day. The Darwin Fitness Centre has been a great addition to the facilities on the unit and is promoting both positive physical and mental wellbeing. The young people love it.”
