CPFT is the home of country’s latest Parkrun

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is set to become the home of the country’s newest Parkrun.

Starting on Saturday, 7 December at 9am, CPFT staff and volunteers will host a weekly 5k event at its headquarters at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge.

The course will take runners through the grounds of the Trust which provides mental health and physical health services.

Anna Tuke, Associate Director for Involvement and Partnerships, said: “We are delighted to be joining the Parkrun family.

“As a Trust we are always trying to promote good mental and physical health as the links between them are well established.

“So to become part of the Parkrun movement, which has does so much for people’s physical health and their mental wellbeing, is a really proud moment for everyone.”

The Fulbourn Hospital Parkrun will start and finish each week close to the main entrance of the hospital in Cambridge Road (CB21 5EF).

Some parking is available and drivers will be asked to give a small donation to CPFT’s charity Head To Toe which has helped fund the event.

Taking part is free, but participants to all parkruns are asked to register via www.parkrun.org.uk before their first run and print off a personalised barcode to ensure they get a record of their time after crossing the finishing line.

The Fulbourn Hospital site houses a number of the Trust’s specialist inpatient mental health wards as well as being home to CPFT’s Windsor Research Unit, and a number of corporate teams.

Anna added: “Fulbourn Hospital has some beautiful grounds and we really hope people will enjoy the Parkrun route.

“We’ve had fantastic support from our staff, our patients and service-users and from the local community. Parkruns rely on volunteers each week to marshal the course and make sure everyone has a good and safe time, and I’m pleased to say we’ve had a terrific response so far.

"Richard Lyle, my event co-director, and Parkrun ambassador Paul Beastall have been great along with our partners Head To Toe, CPSL Mind, the Greater Cambridge Athletics Network and Living Sport.

“We held a successful test event last weekend, and now we’re ready for our launch. We hope as many people as possible will come and take part.”

The first Parkrun was founded in 2004 by Paul Sinton-Hewitt CBE at Bushy Park, west London and in 2018, the 5,000,000th runner registered to take part. There are now Parkrun events in 20 countries all around the world.
