The family of speech therapist Alys Mikolajczyk have installed special memorials at the places where she worked.
Alys died in April following a long battle with pseudomyxoma peritonei, a rare cancer of the appendix.
She was known for her love of wildlife, and her husband, Chris, has arranged for stone bird baths to be placed in the gardens of the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely, North Cambridgeshire Hospital in Wisbech, and at Doddington Hospital.
Speaking at the unveiling of the memorial in Ely which was attended by Chris and one of Alys’s sisters Paulina, Kay Rogers, Clinical Manager for Adult Speech and Language Therapy at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, paid tribute to Alys.
Kay said: “Alys was an exceptional, inspirational, and dedicated therapist, and we all know how lucky we were to have her as part of our team.
“This is a place where we can all come and remember her. The bird baths are beautiful and I know we will never forget her. We would all like to thank Chris for organising the memorials.”
Alys retired from CPFT in March 2017 due to her illness. Before she left the Trust, she was nominated by her colleagues for a special award which are given to staff in recognition of outstanding work.
The award was presented to Alys by then Chief Executive Aidan Thomas at Brookfields Hospital, Cambridge.
CPFT provides physical health for older people and those with long-term conditions, and mental health services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
