Looking after your self

The Five Ways of Well Being provides information on some of the key things we do to maintain our well being. Further information can be found here. General information on maintaining your mental well being can be found at Keep your Head. Information on maintaining your well being during the Covid-19 emergency can be found at cpslmind and at the government site for health and well. Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council provide information on how to get help or to register your self or others as a vulnerable person. 

Needing somebody to talk to

Caring for somebody can be exhausting. If you need to talk to somebody there are a number of organisations which can help. 

Rethink Mental Illness run a carer support line for people looking after a family member or friend with mental heath challenges. They can be contacted at CambridgeRethinkGroup@rethink.org / 07783 267013. If you send an email or leave a message somebody will get back to you within 24 hours.

CPFT have started a Heart and Soul Listening Service. The aim of this service is to anybody including carers with an opportunity to talk to somebody who is there to listen. This service is available for anybody who is caring a friend or family member with a physical or mental health condition.  For more information and how to access the Heart and Soul Listening Service for Carers click here. 

Caring together provide the listening ear service for carers of all ages.

Centre 33 continues to provide support for younger carers. Their phone number is 03334141809 and their lines are open between 12.00 - 4.00 Monday to Friday. . Text / whatsapp on 07514783745 or email at help@centre33.org.uk and somebody will contact you within 48 hours. Further information is available at Centre 33.

If you require additional help and support our volunteering page contains information on how to access Good Sams the national NHS volunteering service for the Covid-19 emergency as well as information on local support available through the local volunteering hubs.  

Support and information about caring for an adult with an eating disorder can be found here. An on line support group for carers of service users with an eating disorder has been set up and is holding a virtual meeting once a week. The meeting is invitation only due to the confidential nature of the discussion. If you think you have been inadvertently left of the list and would like to be part of the meeting, email Keith Grimwade at keith.grimwade@cpft.nhs.uk who will contact the service on your behalf.

Caring Together are continuing to offer a range of support for carers and the people they care for including:

  • Home care by our qualified care workers. This can include personal care, medication, meal preparation,shopping, collection of medication and more

  • Providing information, advice and guidance by telephone,email and our website.

  • Offering our Listening Ear and telephone support service.

  • Supporting and connecting carers by video meet-ups, phone calls and email (instead of the usual hubs and groups).

  • Help to plan for the unexpected.

  • Immediate support in a crisis.

Rethink mental illness provide support for carers, friends and families looking after somebody with a mental health illness. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Rethink Carer Support group can be contacted at CambridgeRethinkGroup@rethink.org / 07783 267013. An on line support group is being held on the 29th April at 7.30. Contact Jonathan Wells at jfgwells57@gmail.com for further information on how to access the virtual group.
