Therapies offered in the Trust

Therapies offered by psychologists from CPFT will vary according to the understanding developed of your needs, and also to the service you have been referred to.

Acute psychology

Clinical Psychologists work alongside other professionals across Crisis and Home Treatment Teams, and inpatient acute adult mental health wards. In these roles Psychologists work to reduce distress, through individual sessions, and group work. At times they may support the families and wider care teams of patients involved with acute services. Psychologists will often support colleagues in their understanding of the Psychological needs of patients working with these teams. They also deliver training and support to team members.

Clinical health psychology

Clinical health psychologists work in a range of acute and community hospital settings, specialising in areas of physical health medicine with patients who may also have co-morbid underlying psychological problems. The aim is to help patients manage their long term conditions, prevent disability and improve their quality of life. This may involve medication and medical procedures but it will also involve encouraging patients to make changes in their lives through activity and exercise, education and relaxation strategies. More information can be found here.
