The Peterborough Paediatric Psychology Service is part of a multi-professional team which assesses a child's (up to the age of 5) abilities across a range of areas to determine how best their additional needs can be described and supported.

How this service can help you

The Peterborough Paediatric Psychology Service works closely with the specialist speech and language therapist because both professions are interested in how a child communicates, interacts and plays. The psychologist may look at a child's cognitive (thinking) skills and their ability to adapt to social situations and also talk to parents/carers about how the child reacts at home and in other settings.

After a multi-professional assessment, the psychologist and the child and family support worker may be involved in supporting the child's communication, behaviour and learning in conjunction with other professionals.

Psychology is the study of people: how they think and act, and how they react and interact with other people. A child psychologist is particularly interested in applying psychology to help children and young people.

Facilities available

The Paediatric Psychology Team usually carries out assessments at the Child Development Centre, City Care Centre where children can be observed playing with a variety of toys.

The City Care Centre has a large car park. (Pay machine in reception.)

We can refund transport costs for families who receive Family Income Support or Working Families Tax Credit. Interpreters are available if needed.
