Physiotherapy Referrals

Referral criteria

The child or young person must be between the ages of 0-18 years old (19 if in special school) and have a registered Peterborough GP for their referral to be considered.

Common conditions that we see:

  • Neurodevelopmental conditions — for example, Cerebral Palsy

  • Neuromuscular conditions — for example, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

  • Gross motor development concerns

  • Genetic conditions with associated physical disability

While our service does not treat musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, hypermobility, or tiptoe walking, services are available within the local area for this. Please speak to your child’s GP for a referral to the hospital physiotherapy team.

All referrals are triaged by a physiotherapist on a regular basis. The child or young person and their family, as well as the person who completed the referral, will be notified of the outcome.

Who can refer?

Referrals are considered from the following health professionals.

  • GPs
  • Paediatricians or consultants
  • Health visitors
  • Social care
  • Education professionals (SENCos)
  • Other allied health care professionals (for example, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists)

How to refer

To ensure that triage can be completed appropriately and in a timely manner, please provide as much information as possible on the referral form. We do not accept referrals where the form has not been completed. Please note that we aim to see all children within 18 weeks of the referral.
