Meet the CPFT Research PPIE Lead

PPIE lead contact banner

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) Research Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Lead works in research alongside a clinical nursing role.
PPIE supports the delivery of great health research that is patient-centred and meets the needs of people using CPFT services and their families.

The PPIE lead does this by inviting diverse people with lived experience of health conditions to share their views when research ideas are being developed, and guide studies that are being delivered. Carers and supporters are invited to share their views too. Involving people with lived experience in the design and development of research can improve its quality and relevance and help researchers communicate study information well, including the results.

PPIE supports research at CPFT with clinical expertise by:

  • Helping to deliver best practice for research PPIE
  • Improving study information and communication for participants
  • Improving the research experience for participants
  • Meeting with researchers to identify PPIE needs
  • Providing practical support for research meetings
  • Promoting research at public engagement events
  • Helping to build skills and confidence to deliver great research
  • Signposting to research training, PPIE advice and networks

If you would like to request PPIE support for your project or study, contact the team at: RandD@cpft.nhs.uk

Help to shape research centre for mood disorders

CPFT researchers are setting up a new Mood Disorders Research Centre to help people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. This centre is part of the national Mental Health Mission (MHM) project working with a network of centres across the country to develop new treatments for conditions like depression.

To ensure the clinic meets the needs of the people we support, researchers are seeking 5-10 people with lived experience of depression from a wide range of backgrounds to join a Research Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) group. Meetings will be held every quarter online or in person and members will be paid £25 per hour and reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses.

If you or someone you know / care for are interested in becoming a member, please email RandD@cpft.nhs.uk with the subject ‘Mood Disorder Clinic’, by Friday 26 September 2025. Please share this opportunity with anyone at CPFT who may be interested.
