Bringing nature and calm to our clinic at Brookside.

Emma and Sarah at the Brookside mural

We’re so grateful to a wonderful family who, after receiving incredible care from our healthcare teams at Brookside Family Consultation Clinic, wanted to give back. Because of their kindness, we were able to bring to life this beautiful wall mural, painted by talented local artist Sarah Hunnibell

Brookside Family Consultation Clinic supports children, young people and their families dealing with challenging times, including anxiety, depression, self-harm, psychosis and the effects of trauma. Our specialist team offer a range of therapeutic interventions which focus on problems and thinking about things in a different way together.

However, the physical space at Brookside was definitely in need of a makeover, to create a warmer and more welcoming environment for the amazing people who come through our doors. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to make the clinic brighter and more comforting with additions like window art, sensory items and comfy chairs to help during appointments. Children, young people and families have helped design it all, choosing “nature” as the theme for the room names and artwork.

Young people and families told us that waiting for appointments can be stressful, as is the walk towards the clinic rooms. So, together with our healthcare teams, we came up with the idea for a nature-themed wall mural, full of little creatures to spot and focus on – a calming way to ease anxiety before appointments.

“The mural not only brightens up the day for young people and families, but also makes a huge difference to our teams who work at Brookside. Young people often wait for appointments in this corner of our waiting area, and this gives them a place to feel a bit more at ease.”

Thank you to all the young people, families and donors that have made this possible. To find out more about our projects and how to donate to projects like this please get in touch:
