How our service can help you
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Home Treatment Team supports young people aged 12-18 years old, and their parents/carers, during an acute phase of mental illness with severe impairment, significant risk or high complexity of mental health challenges, such as neurodevelopmental disorder and trauma; and where a community service would not be sufficient to engage a young person and/or their family, contain risk or progress treatment.
When a young person is accepted by the team a care plan will identify such things as when appointments happen and with whom, and in what ways the team can be helpful. If a young person already has other CAMHS teams involved in their care it is likely they will remain involved.
The Home Treatement Team will therefore work alongside community and in-patient teams to enhance the therapeutic work that is already underway, or to help the young person and their families engage in this work to remain out of hospital and safe in their own communities.
The aim is to enhance the existing skills and strenghts of young people to ensure they can participate as much as possible in their local community and by creating a network of support that ensures that all involved feel as though they are acting as part of the solution, rather than part of the problem. This may involve the following professionals:
- Consultant psychiatrist
- Psychologist (including assistant psychologist and youth intensive psychological practitioners)
- Family therapist
- Social worker
- Education guidance
- Team manager / clinical lead
- Clinical nurse specialists
- Senior mental health practitioners
- Support time and recovery workers
- Administration co-ordinator

Most appointments / meetings take place
9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend support is available if required and agreed as part of a care plan, usually by telephone. As this is a duty system, it may not be the person directly involved in a young persons care plan, but they will know the level of support required.
Referral Information
-
Young people are referred to the team by child and adolescent mental health services within CPFT.
Carers Information
-
A carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. The care they give is unpaid.
At Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, we value the often life-long support carers provide and recognise them as equal care partners. We want to offer as much guidance and reassurance as possible, to help you in your caring role.
