“Rachel will be leaving a fine legacy, and my aim will be to build on everything that she has done and be part of the next chapter for the Trust as we continue to improve our services.”

Interim Chief Executive Scott Haldane said: “Penny was the outstanding candidate in a very strong field.

“Her background, leadership and commitment to developing staff to provide the very best care for patients and service-users made her the ideal choice, and we are very much looking forward to her joining us.”

Penny will be taking up her role on Monday, 6 June. Rowena Harvey, currently Deputy Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Quality, will be Acting Director between Rachel retiring and Penny joining CPFT.

Penny began her 30-year career with the NHS in Leicester as a registered nurse and after spells in London and Cambridge – where she gained experience in both in-patient and community midwifery - she became Head of Midwifery at the former Peterborough District Hospital in 2009.

In 2014 she became Deputy Chief Nurse at Kettering General Hospital before moving to United Lincolnshire Hospitals as Deputy Chief Nurse, gaining experience in managing children’s community services. Penny was also a Deputy Chief Nurse with the Lincolnshire Sustainability and Transformation Partnership leading the women’s and children’s transformation agenda.

She was appointed North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust’s Deputy Chief Nurse in 2020 and was promoted to her current role last year.

Rachel Gomm announced her intention to retire in January following a 36-year career with the NHS which has taken her from ward to board.
