Work experience

Work experience at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust gives people of all ages the chance to explore careers in health and social care. It’s a great way to experience what it’s like to work within the NHS and learn from experienced staff who already work in the environment.

Whether you’re thinking about your future or considering a career change, our work experience opportunities can help you make informed choices about pursuing a career in healthcare.

At CPFT, we are passionate about providing high‑quality care and through our work experience programme, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain real‑world insight into NHS roles
  • Build confidence and develop valuable skills for future employment
  • Meet professionals across clinical and non‑clinical teams
  • Learn about our Trust’s values and culture
  • Explore next steps, including volunteering, apprenticeships, and long‑term career pathways

We offer a variety of placements ranging from ‘taster days’ through to programmes over one or two weeks, and in some cases longer opportunities. Some are hands-on, while others focus on observation and work shadowing. Every placement is designed to provide a valuable and meaningful experience for those looking to join the health and social care sector while also helping us to build a future‑ready workforce.

  • Opportunities vary depending on availability and service need.
  • Age restrictions apply for the safety of both learners and service users, and these will be stated in each advert.
  • There will always be a reasonable limit to the number of placements the Trust can offer as the demand for placements often exceeds the number that can be accommodated, so priority will be given to those who demonstrate a genuine interest in a health and social care career.
  • Please note: these placements are not  suitable for students requiring clinical placements as part of a degree level qualification (e.g. medical, nursing or other health care professional courses). These must be arranged through your Higher Education Institute or university.
