Preparing for your appointment
What to expect
If offered a physiotherapy assessment, service users are expected to attend an appointment at the Child Development Centre, City Care Centre, Peterborough. Here they will meet their allocated physiotherapist.
The first appointment may take up to 90 minutes during which the physiotherapist will discuss relevant medical information and parental concerns as well as complete a physical assessment. After the initial appointment, the child or young person's physiotherapist will discuss and develop an appropriate treatment plan based on the findings from the assessment. They will then arrange follow up appointments (if needed) according to your child's or young person's need.
What to bring
- During physiotherapy appointments it is important for us to be able to observe how the body is moving and your child/young person may be required to undress so that this is possible. If your child or young person is older then we advise for them to wear shorts and vest or t-shirt or loose-fitting clothing.
- Your child may already have equipment such as a walking frame or orthotics (splints). Please bring these to your appointments so that these can be reviewed. Please note we do not expect you to bring large pieces of equipment to your appointments such as standing frames.
- If your child or young person is hoisted, please bring them with their sling in situ.
- Some appointments may take some time and your child or young person may require a drink or snack as well as their favourite toy or entertainment.
- You might find it useful to write a list of questions prior to your child's or young person's appointment that you would like to ask as it is easy to forget them when you are in the appointment.
Parking and getting here
- The car park can often be busy so please bear this in mind when planning your journey. If you are going to be late for your appointment, please contact the reception on 01733 847 023.
- The car parking at City Care Centre is cash only; there is no cash machine on site. The nearest cash machine is located at the Co Op on Thorpe Road around 200m away. See applicable charges below.
