A consultant psychiatrist at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust been appointed to a prestigious new role.

Dr Asha Praseedom is to become the Books Editor for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Asha, who works in adult mental health and is clinical director of patient flow, will have overall responsibility for the college’s successful books programme which are primarily for psychiatrists but can also appeal to a wider range of professionals involved in mental health as well as the growing number of titles aimed at the general public.

When she takes up her new role in July, Asha (pictured) will chair the college’s Books Committee, which shapes the direction of the books programme, commissions new titles, reviews proposals, and works with authors to develop their manuscripts.

Asha, who will succeed Dr Anne Doherty, who has been in the role for 10 years, said: "I am honoured to step in as the new College Books Editor.
“Books have always been a passion of mine. I hope to bring this passion into my new role, and to build on the amazing work by Dr Doherty and the Books Committee.”

Asha has been a member of the college’s Books Committee since January 2024.

She will continue to combine her role with the Royal College with her work at CPFT which she joined in 2006.

Asha has edited several high-profile book titles and has also published a number of journal articles.

The announcement about Asha's appointment was first made by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The college's news release can be read here.
