VE Day 80th Anniversary – a special message from Tom Bale, Associate Director and Chair of the CPFT Armed Forces Network

As we remember our heroes on the 80th anniversary of VE Day, our Chair of CPFT's Armed Forces Staff Network, Tom Bale, shares this message with us all.

"As the country marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, it is a time for all of us to reflect on the significance of this day, which commemorates the end of the Second World War in Europe and the incredible sacrifices made in the name of peace and freedom.

"This moment of remembrance is not only a part of our national heritage, but also deeply personal to many within our CPFT family; especially those who have served in the Armed Forces, or have family members who have.

"Through our Armed Forces Staff Network, we continue to support and recognise the experiences of veterans and reservists across our organisation, and we are proud of the difference their perspectives bring to our work.

"It is also a time to honour the doctors, nurses and medical technicians who served during World War II – not only those who provided emergency care on the front lines, but also those who supported the long and often invisible journey of recovery from emotional and psychological trauma.

"Their pioneering efforts in understanding and treating the mental health wounds of war laid the foundations for the work we do today. At CPFT, many of our colleagues carry forward that legacy; supporting people in their most vulnerable moments with skill, compassion, and a deep commitment to healing.

"Some of our staff will be attending VE Day events across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough today, which will offer a chance to honour those who served and remember the legacy of their commitment.

"Let’s take a moment this week to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today – and to recognise all those, past and present, who have helped to protect and restore lives."
