NHS chief visits Trust to see great work of allied health professionals

Ben Jupp, Director of Intermediate Care and Rehabilitation at NHS England, was given a warm welcome when he met staff and patients at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Jupp — accompanied by Tom Luckraft, Deputy Programme Lead of Intermediate Care at NHS England, and Callum McCarthy, Head of the Better Care Fund Oversight and Support Team at the Department of Health and Social Care — visited teams at the Cavell Centre and the City Care Centre in Peterborough.

The Cavell Centre houses a number of the Trust's mental health wards while the City Care Centre is where one of CPFT's intermediate care wards is based. The ward's team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nurses support patients to achieve a level of independence before they return to their homes.

Mr Jupp spent time talking to the allied health professionals about the rehabilitation work they undertake with patients at the Trust's mental and physical health wards as well as in the community.

Interim Chief AHP Jo Fishpoole, pictured above fourth from right, said: “We were really pleased that Ben could visit and see the great care at CPFT and the fantastic work of AHP colleagues at our Trust and across the region.”

Before the tour, Mr Jupp took part in a roundtable discussion with senior allied health professionals from across the region led by NHS England East of England Chief AHP Rachel Wakefield and Deputy Chief AHP Poonam Hyland who both previously worked for CPFT.

AHPs are 14 distinct healthcare professions who play a crucial role in treating, rehabilitating, and improving patient lives. CPFT employs many of the professions including
arts therapists, dietitians, music therapists, occupational therapists, paramedics, physios, podiatrists, and speech and language therapists.

CPFT provides community physical health services for older people and adults with long term conditions, mental health services, children community services in Peterborough and learning disability services. The Trust is also renowned for its research and development work and in June 2025, CPFT was awarded Teaching Partner status by the University of Cambridge.
