Join festive event to boost appeal involving Fenland Council, CPFT's Head to Toe charity and How Are You Fenland

Over 60s are invited to a free festive event where they can enjoy entertainment, refreshments and receive a Christmas gift generously donated by Fenland residents and community groups.
Fenland District Council’s free Christmas Golden Age Fair is open to anyone interested in opportunities, services and support for over 60s and will have a special festive flavour including songs from a choir.
Gifts donated to the ongoing Golden Age Christmas Appeal — which involves the council, Head To Toe, the official charity of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and How Are You Fenland? — will be handed out to visitors. Gift collection points remain open until Monday, November 24.
Cllr Sam Clark, Golden Age team leader, said: “We’d like to say another huge thank you to the people of Fenland for supporting the Golden Age Christmas Appeal in its second year.
“The appeal shows our older residents how valued they are and ensures every visitor to our event has at least one gift this Christmas.
“Golden Age events are open to all over 60s and are an unparalleled opportunity to discover opportunities, services and support available for older people in Fenland in a welcoming, informal environment.
“We welcome visitors to stroll the stands of dozens of different organisations and partners who are there to chat about what they offer, hand out leaflets and information.
“These events are so valuable to everyone, and for the vulnerable and isolated among our visitors we know they’re vital.”
Different partners attend each Golden Age event, but stands generally include information on finances, legal issues, carers, independent living, housing, volunteering, social activities, transport, wellbeing and more.
The Golden Age Christmas Appeal is a collaboration between Fenland District Council and Head to Toe, the official charity of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, which provides district nursing care for older people and those with long-term conditions and mental health services, together with the Trust’s How Are You Fenland?, which encourages people to get active, learn new skills and be creative.
Any leftover donated gifts will be passed on to healthcare professionals in Fenland to give to vulnerable older people.
Present drop-off points are at:
• Wisbech, March, Chatteris and Whittlesey libraries
• Tesco Extra, in Cromwell Road, Wisbech
• Tesco Superstore, Hostmoor Avenue, March.
New and unwrapped items accepted only. Suggested donations are books, chocolates, sweets, biscuits, glove, hats, scarves, socks, toiletries and small gifts such as diaries and mugs. Perishable goods and alcohol cannot be accepted.
The December Golden Age event will be held Friday, December 12, 10am to 1pm, at GER Sports Club, Robingoodfellows Lane, March, PE15 8HS.
